LE BALLATE DI PETER GRIFFIN
Peter Griffin era un ragazzo come tanti altri, era andato a scuola, aveva avuto una ragazza per 5 anni, e quand’era piccolo andava a messa ogni domenica.
Peter Griffin era australiano, per questo motivo il suo cuore era di pietra e il suo carattere rude, selvaggio.
A 20 anni si innamorò di due cose: la musica e la droga. Amava la melodia e amava essere sballato.
Quando fumava erba le sue canzoni erano lente, melodiche. Quando sniffava cocaina il suo ritmo assumeva un ritmo più
corposo diventando veloce e rockeggiante.
A 23 anni riuscì a comprarsi una chitarra di seconda mano con i risparmi che aveva guadagnato grazie al suo lavoro da carpentiere.
Iniziò a farsi allungare i capelli, la musica che ascoltava iniziò ad influenzare la sua vita: Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, chitarra, poesia, rock’n’roll e
droga.
Pericolosa.
I parenti iniziarono a guardarlo storto, lui figlio degli anni ’70, con i capelli lunghi, con la chitarra…
Vittima dei pregiudizi della società. Una mattina, Clara, sua madre, fece l’errore di entrare nella sua stanza.
Sul muro il poster di Iggy Pop, per terra qualche cicca di strane sigarette, sulla scrivania delle bustine bianche.
Peter si destò, aprì gli occhi, in bocca un sapore amaro, in testa un insistente martellare.
Vide la faccia di sua madre, distrutta, attonita… senza parole.
Quella mattina di Ottobre Peter capì. Doveva andarsene, il suo posto non era più casa, doveva vivere la strada, doveva far sentire al mondo la sua musica, libero, senza pregiudizi, solo con la sua chitarra.
Iniziò a viaggiare, con in spalla la sua chitarra e con in tasca pochi dollari.
Vagò per il suo paese, l’Australia, la terra del sole, senza meta per ben 30 anni, senza essere capito.
Una notte di gennaio arrivò in un piccolo paesino della costa, Noosa, ormai smunto, quasi scheletrico, la pelle rovinata dal sole, la faccia butterata dalla droga, i capelli, legati alla nuca, scoloriti, senza più forza.
Si fermò in un ostello, attorniato da ragazzi giovani, unico baluardo di una generazione ormai scomparsa. Quante storie aveva ascoltato durante il suo viaggio, quante note erano uscite dalla cassa della sua ormai vecchia chitarra! I tempi erano cambiati da quei lontani anni ’70, la società aveva conosciuto il computer, i telefonini, le distanze si erano accorciate.
Peter era semplicemente rimasto lo stesso, musica, sballo, libertà; quello che era cambiato era ciò che gli stava capitando intorno. L’Australia si era riempita di giovani viaggiatori da tutto il mondo, chi in cerca di esperienza, chi in cerca di un sogno, chi semplicemente in vacanza.
– Oh ma hai visto quel vecchio? Quanto è fuori…? – parlavano alle sue spalle i gruppetti di giovani sbarbati seduti nel cortile dell’ostello in cui Peter stava alloggiando. Si fermò per tre notti in quel paesino, sedendosi tra i giovani ragazzi, cercando di trovare ogni sera l’assolo perfetto, cercando ancora, a distanza di 30 anni di fare innamorare i ragazzi con la sua musica.
Ma non venne capito…
I giovani non erano più rock’n’roll lui, ostinato, cantava ancora, gli occhi chiusi, la mente sognante, l’anima guidata dal fumo dello spinello che aveva perennemente in bocca.
Non lo poteva ammettere, ma ogni sera tornava a letto piangendo, ricordando i vecchi tempi, rimpiangendo il fatto di non essersi costruito un futuro migliore.
Nello stesso ostello erano anche alloggiati un gruppo di ragazzi italiani, abitualmente seduti sui tavoli del cortile, intenti a fumare qualche canna, parlando di figa, pronti ogni sera a fare party. Peter quel lunedì sera, quando si imbatté nel gruppo di quei ragazzi europei, era più ubriaco del solito, faceva fatica quasi a camminare, non riusciva a pensare lucidamente.
Voleva parlare, voleva raccontare, il suo inglese, ormai sbiascicato non aveva più un senso.
I ragazzi avevano orecchie per ascoltare, erano pronti ad ascoltare le parole di Peter, ma non capivano, quello che usciva dalla bocca del vecchio viaggiatore drogato erano solo un mucchio di parole senza senso.
Peter se ne accorse, ma come un brutto incubo, più cercava di parlare, più tentava di scandire le parole, più dalla bocca gli uscivano sentenze incomprensibili.
Voleva raccontare i suoi sogni, le sue paure, la sua musica, ma dalla bocca solo suoni senza senso.
I quattro italiani, con lo sguardo interrogativo erano diversi da tutti gli altri, non lo stavano deridendo, semplicemente non capivano.
Finché Peter vide una chitarra.
Straziato dalla droga si alzò per strappare lo strumento dalle mani del proprietario della stessa, un canadese biondo, che mai aveva ascoltato il vero rock’n’roll.
Con quella chitarra in mano si alzò, ritornando al tavolo degli italiani, iniziando una lenta canzone, un “Merry Merry Christmas”, lento, straziante, le sue parole all’inizio nitide si trasformarono in un lungo ululato, lui con lo sguardo verso la luna cercando di esprimere tutti i suoi sentimenti non poté far altro che urlare, ululando tutta la sua rabbia per tutti i problemi avuti in passato.
Quella sera, per qualche istante, qualcuno l’aveva capito, ma non la security dell’ostello, che gli intimò di andarsene. Peter si rivolse al buttafuori dicendogli con tutta l’umanità possibile: – No! Non adesso… ho trovato il mio pubblico, fatemi cantare ancora un po’, ho bisogno di finire la mia storia – ma ancora una volta dalla bocca gli uscì solamente un – Uuuu… Uuuuu… Uuuuu -.
Dovette andarsene il mattino seguente, la chitarra in spalla, pochi soldi nel portafoglio e l’amarezza di non essere riuscito a finire il suo racconto.
